How to choose acupuncture software in Canada

By Oscar Poon, a TCM clinic director in Canada. Pricing checked September 2026.

The right software depends on how you bill, how many practitioners you have and whether you chart in Chinese. Use the five questions below with any vendor, MyTCM included, then compare the options.

Five questions to ask any vendor

  1. 1. Which Canadian payers can I bill directly today, and which are only planned?

Billing is where products differ most. Ask for the list of insurers, MSP, ICBC and WorkSafeBC that work today, and get anything marked as coming soon in writing with a date.

  2. 2. What will I actually pay each month for my number of practitioners and staff?

Headline prices often exclude billing add-ons, extra practitioners and SMS. Add all of them up for your clinic and compare the twelve month total.

  3. 3. Can I chart in Chinese and still get English records for insurers?

If you chart in Chinese, check that the software handles Chinese input, Chinese herb and point names, and can produce an English report without retyping.

  4. 4. Where is my patient data stored, and can I export it if I leave?

Ask which country holds the data, who can access it, and how you get a full export. Data you cannot take with you is a cost you only see on the way out.

  5. 5. How do I get help when something breaks during clinic hours?

Find out whether support is a person you can reach the same day, and what hours they cover in your time zone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best software for an acupuncture clinic in Canada?

There is no single best choice. Jane suits multi-discipline clinics and has insurance billing that works today. MyTCM is built only for TCM and acupuncture, with Chinese and English charting and one flat price for up to 5 users. The comparison pages below show where each is the better fit.

Do I need software built specifically for TCM?

Only if TCM structure matters to how you chart: patterns, tongue and pulse, herbal formulas, acupoints and Chinese terminology. A general clinic tool can work if you do not need those.

How much does acupuncture clinic software cost in Canada?

Prices vary widely, and many vendors charge for each extra practitioner plus add-ons for billing. For example, Jane's Practice plan with its insurance billing add-on is about $104 a month in CAD for one solo practitioner. MyTCM is $56 a month for up to 5 users at one location, or $99 a month for 2 locations and 10 users, plus a one-time $100 setup fee.

Which software can bill MSP, ICBC or WorkSafeBC for acupuncture?

It differs by vendor and changes often. MyTCM's ICBC billing works today, with MSP and other insurers being added. Check each vendor's own list before you commit.
